New Years Eve Outfit Inspiration

December 19, 2018 by ashadmin No Comments

Now that Christmas is less than one week away, it means New Years Eve is right behind. I thought I’d share a fun and festive look for the big night. This sparkly maxi dress gives me some disco ball vibes, which I highlighted even more with my metallic silver leather jacket. But since I’m six months pregnant I dressed it down on the bottom with my trusty vans high-tops. Kind of a mullet of looks – glam on top, casual on the bottom.

I was pregnant over the holidays two years ago too so I’m kind of an expert now. We don’t really go too big for New Years… instead we’ll stay in and play games with friends. I’ll watch them all drink and try to keep up with them by eating everything in sight. But I’ll win because I won’t wake up with a hangover.

This dress also comes in a pretty rose gold color that would be equally perfect (and sparkly) for NYE. It’s not maternity, but has a lot of stretch so I went with my normal size. Even though it’s a statement I think it’s a fun dress for other occasions too. It could be dressed down even more with a boyfriend denim jacket, or really glammed up with a faux fur stole and strappy heels.

No matter what your plans are for the night, it’s always fun to get a little dressed up. And that doesn’t necessarily mean cocktail dress. A few years ago I wore a pair of sequined joggers with slippers and felt just as glam. I’m also loving this pleated mini dress, this sequin fair isle sweater, these sparkly joggers and this sequin blazer.

The 5 Cutest Teddy Jackets For Winter

December 17, 2018 by ashadmin No Comments

The last few months I’ve been really into teddy jackets… but I haven’t really worn them, until now. I’ve tracked down 5 that I think are the best of the season, plus 3 more for babies/toddlers. Breaking them all down below.

Outfit details

on me: jacket c/o, top c/o, sunglasses, jeans, bag c/o, shoes c/o

on Crosby: jacket, top, jeans, shoes c/o

  1. Let’s start with the jacket I’m wearing in the photos. Mine is from Sanctuary Clothing and it’s so cozy. It hits me right at the waist so it’s not a super long jacket. It’s kind of hard to tell in these photos but it has a light champagne hint to it. I think it’s a great winter staple and would be just as cute over a dress for something fancier.
  2. This one is possibly my favorite teddy jacket of the season and it’s only $40. My friend Ashley has been wearing it for a few months and I finally asked her where she got it. OF course I had to order one right away and have been wearing it non-stop since I got it. The fit is slightly oversized (I got a small) but perfect.
  3. Another favorite of mine has been this blush one. I’ve worn it several times since I got it a few months ago. It’s another one that can be dressed up with a few easy tweaks and I love the soft blush color.
  4. This jacket looks so chic and comes in three different colors, my favorite is the tan. Great price point!
  5. This cropped leopard jacket is so fun! Would be really cute over a black or brown dress.

And for the toddlers/babies…

  1. I found Crosby’s coat (from the photos) while I was doing some online shopping on Cyber Monday. It’s so cute to see a toddler in a coat, I feel like she looks so much more grown up! Her’s is so fuzzy and comfortable. Again it can work with a casual or fancy outfit and the price is great.
  2. I found this really cute leopard print fuzzy jacket for toddlers and think it might need to make it’s way to Crosby’s closet soon. It has a hood with cute little ears on it. This one for babies is super similar and just as cute.
  3. I saw this coat on a friends baby and it was the cutest thing. The color is perfect for the rest of the winter.

4 Must-Have Jeans For Pregnancy

December 13, 2018 by ashadmin No Comments

I’m over half-way through my second pregnancy and if there’s anything I learned from the first time it’s that getting dressed isn’t always easy. Luckily last time I picked up some tricks (aka closet staples) to soften the blow. I have a couple of tried and true pairs of jeans that I’m still fitting in/relying on heavily. And I’ve also been trying out two new pairs of maternity jeans.

First let’s talk about the non-maternity jeans…

jacket c/o, top, jeans (more sizes in different washes)

Pair #1 is Topshop and they are $75. I wore these bad boys almost the whole way through my pregnancy with Crosby. They’re super skinny but have a lot of give. I was so pleasantly surprised when I went to put them on after I gave birth, thinking they’d probably be all stretched out and weird, but they fit perfectly. They’re some sort of magic which is why I’m wearing them again this time. My only complaint is the fly hasn’t been laying right the past couple of weeks. Making my half-tuck not possible.

sweater c/o, jeans

Pair #2 is Free People and they are $47. Like the Topshop pair, these come in a variety of washes and are super skinny with a lot of give. Sadly I can’t report on their stretch-out factor because I purchased these after my last pregnancy. Since they’re so similar to the Topshop pair, I’m hoping they hold up as well. I lived in them before my pregnancy and have been just as comfortable during.

Moving on to the maternity jeans…

top, jeans

Pair #1 is from Madewell. I purchased these on Cyber Monday for about $60, normally they’re $138 but are still available in a couple of sizes and on sale for $80. Typically maternity jeans are fitted weird – baggy around the ankles and legs because they think pregnancy = swollen. These are very fitted like a typical pair of skinny jeans. I also love the wash, raw hem and distressing. I read the reviews before I ordered and went up one size. Usually I wear a 24 in Madewell but got these in a 25. They’re still pretty tight so I’m not sure they’ll take me through my whole pregnancy but I am enjoying them now. I also wish they came up a bit higher in the front.

Madewell has more maternity jeans HERE.

Pair #2 is from Ingrid & Isabel and they are $118. These were too long on me so I decided to cut the hem… while I was at it, I went ahead and cut a hole into each knee. Unlike the Madewell pair, I found these to run large. I got a size 25 and definitely still have room. They’ll probably be really comfortable when I’m into the 3rd trimester. Again, I wish they came up higher in the front.

Velour Jumpsuit

December 12, 2018 by Ashley No Comments

This is the second time I’ve been pregnant around the holidays and it’s interesting. In some ways it’s really great, like indulging in all the yummy food that’s around this time of year. Wearing all the cozy layers – sweaters, jackets, etc. But it comes with challenges too… always being the designated driver and trying to figure out what to wear to a holiday party when all you want is to sit on your couch in your PJ’s. I think I found the answer to the what to wear part. This velour jumpsuit is just as comfortable as pajamas, but looks super chic. It’s not maternity, but definitely has enough give to work with a bump. Perfect for pregs AND regs.

jacket c/o, jumpsuit c/o, similar clutch, similar heels

I went with my regular size in the jumpsuit – it has a lot of give. This is what I put together to wear to a holiday party last weekend. At first I was a little stumped on getting dressed but ended up loving how it came together.

I shied away from jumpsuits my last pregnancy but I’m not sure why. If you find the right one they’re pretty much the most comfortable thing and can be really flattering with a bump. This one from Sanctuary is supposed to be slightly cropped, but I’m on the shorter side so it’s longer on me. I paired it with 3 inch heels so it wouldn’t drag and that was the only uncomfortable part. Heels and pregnancy just aren’t my thing… I’m hoping to avoid them as much as possible the next few months.

I got this faux fur jacket from Morning Lavender awhile back and have been waiting for a reason to wear it. Not that I needed a reason, but I was saving it for something fun. It was the perfect topper for this outfit and kept me warm all night.

Mommy and Me Pajamas

December 10, 2018 by ashadmin No Comments

Last week I posted a photo of Crosby and I in mommy and me matching pj’s on instagram and this week we’re back with more. Our cute pajamas are from PJ  Salvage and you know I love the mommy and me matching prints. I sized up to a 2T on Crosby’s jammies and even got a cute little one piece matching romper for baby boy. They’re a little big on her this year but hopefully they’ll both fit into them next year and we can match again.

on me: similar beanie, top c/o, bottoms c/o

on Crosby: pj’s c/o

When Crosby and I got ready for photos, Mackie jumped in too! I didn’t even have to bribe her. Last year we did matching family pajamas for our Christmas cards (see them here) and I squeezed Mackie into a toddler size 12 month top so she’d match us too. This year a few different brands have come out with family matching jammies that have a pair for dogs too. Look at how cute the dog is matching with it’s family in these… but where were they last year?! Another cute set for everyone + the dog. And this set in the cute red and black plaid.

Can I keep fairy lights up all year long? Crosby loves them and I think they just make everything more fun! I ordered these on Amazon and have been moving them all around the house/with me when I take photos. Currently I have them strung around our Christmas tree. I got the idea from Anthropologie… they always have the prettiest decorated trees. It’s so simple and adds a little more sparkle.

Sanctuary Pink Cardigan

December 7, 2018 by ashadmin 1 Comment

I love a bold pop for the holidays… and that’s just what this bright pink Sanctuary cardigan is. It makes my more understated outfit a little bit festive and fun. Plus it’s really warm. I haven’t really worn anything this bright in a while, but I have to say I’m loving it.

Over the weekend we went down to Lido Marina Village to see snow. Malibu Farm makes it “snow” every day at 5 and we wanted to check it out. It ended up being so cold and Crosby was definitely not impressed by the fake snowy bubbles being pumped out of a machine. I still loved it and always love any excuse to head down there. They have the cutest Christmas decorations, if you’re local you need to check it out.

It’s been raining here the past two days so we’ve been spending a lot of time indoors. I’m not about to brave a rainstorm with a toddler, stroller and umbrella. Hopefully it’s all behind us now and we’ll have sunshine this weekend. We just got the cutest matching PJ’s and wore them all day yesterday. Love these, they come in a few different prints and in sizes for babies to big kids.

Weekends in December are always so busy and fun. Tomorrow we’re going to a fun event in the afternoon (I’m going to wear this dress) and then a holiday adults-only dinner (thinking about wearing this jumpsuit with this jacket). But then Sunday we can relax and catch up on shoots and stuff around the house. I’m all about that kind of balance.
