Crosby’s Big Girl Room

July 30, 2020 by ashadmin No Comments

So happy to finally share Crosby’s beachy mermaid big girl room! This project has been a long time coming and it makes me so happy to finally have it completed.

About a year ago Crosby started climbing out of her crib. She wasn’t quite two and a half yet and we definitely weren’t ready for her to be in a big bed, luckily the crib she was in was able to convert into a toddler bed. If you’re pregnant and shopping for a crib, I highly recommend one that can be made into a toddler bed. They’re really the perfect training beds… extremely safe/low to the ground so you don’t have to worry about them getting hurt if they roll out. Plus it’s a great way to get them used to their independence in their room at nap and bed time.

The first thing we chose for the room was this wall mural from A New Wall. I love the blue and white wave print and knew it would be the perfect starting point for her room. The next thing we found was this gorgeous rattan daybed. I love daybeds for little girls and this one is so perfect for her beach themed room. Since we were installing the mural on two of her walls and it’s such a big statement I figured her rug should be more neutral. I love the texture and design on this one… it will brighten up any space. Finally I found this quilt at Target… it’s sadly sold out now.

A note on the throw pillows – most I’ve had for several years so they’re no longer linkable, I tried to find some similar options that I will link below.

Wallpaper In My House

July 9, 2020 by ashadmin No Comments

Late last week we (Jeff and his dad) finally got the wallpaper up in Crosby’s room! I’ve had the wallpaper for months and was waiting until we had a few things repaired in the room before it could be hung. It completely transforms the room that was so plain before – now, we’re just waiting on a mattress before we do the full “big girl” room transformation. Now that her walls are done I realized we have wallpaper in 3 different rooms in our house and wanted to do a post with the breakdown.

I’ve been a fan of wallpaper for the past several years (thanks to Pinterest), but had never had it in a room until we bought this house. The first wallpaper we picked out was this bold banana leaf print for our entry way.

It’s not a very big wall but the wallpaper makes a fun statement (and first impression) as you enter our house. Leaf prints have been a trend for years, this has been up for 4.5 years now and I still love it.

The second room we installed wallpaper was Wilder’s nursery. Honestly this came about in a collaboration with Minted back when we were designing the room before he was born. I hadn’t thought to put wallpaper in his room but after they approached me and I found this mudcloth print I was sold. Now I can’t imagine his room without it, it completely makes the room and works perfectly with the other black and white prints we have in the otherwise neutral space.

I found Crosby’s wallpaper late last summer and have been desperate to get it on the walls ever since. I drove Jeff crazy for months wanting to rush through the dry wall repairs we needed to do… and then quarantine hit and we were at a complete standstill. Luckily over the past month we were able to get it fixed so the wallpaper could be hung. I said it above, but I am obsessed. Crosby is too, she calls it her mermaid room and is so happy to be in there.

Toddler Room Organization

August 18, 2019 by ashadmin No Comments

Last week on instagram I shared a few pieces we have in Crosby’s room to keep it organized and I got a lot of questions so I thought it could be an interesting blog post. It all started when we moved Crosby into her new room a couple of months before Wilder was born. We wanted the nursery to be the room closest to ours. It was a relatively seamless transition and we were glad to have it done and have her comfortable with her new room before Wilder was born.

Since we were so busy setting up the nursery, Crosby’s new room kind of took a backseat. Obviously we had the major pieces of furniture like her crib and changing table/dresser but we were lacking in organizational pieces to hold her books and toys.

For months her room felt unfinished and always messy because her books were stacked off to the side. A few weeks ago I finally decided to do something about it.

I ordered this shelf/bin to house her books. I loved that it’s low since we didn’t have a lot of avialable wall space in the room. It’s perfect for her books. We have some of her toys in baskets on top which also really helps.

Some other options I considered and really liked… this toy chest if you have a lot of toys you want stored away, another good shelf with cubbies, love this book shelf bench hybrid, a cute ladder shelf that would work well in a kid’s room, a corner cabinet, a lower ladder shelf, a three bin organizer and this storage box.

Another shelf I love for her room is this one. I have it in her closet to hold her shoes. It has several cubbies which are easy for her to pick her shoes out and put them away. It really helps to keep her closet organized.

Other room details:

rug, crib/toddler bed, dresser, knobs, similar mobile, circular shelf, similar basket
