Wilder turned two the weekend before last and I’m still in shock! With everything that has happened in the world over the last year it feels like an extra blur. He is non-stop and so much fun. He loves singing, dancing, doing whatever “Sissy” is doing and any kind of ball. Plays hard and loves hard and as much as I want to keep him a baby, he’s growing everyday and turning more into a toddler.
We did a family party at home for his birthday with our parents and I wanted to decorate with beach balls. Jeff and I DIY’ed the decorations a couple of hours before everyone came over and everything was so simple. The theme was “2 much fun” and that describes Wilder perfectly. I linked everything at the bottom of this post.
On Sunday Crosby turned four and I’m still trying to wrap my head around it. Four suddenly feels old… so much older than three. She’s no longer considered a toddler, now a preschooler. Her Birthday also marks one year since Covid completely changed our world. One year of restrictions and adapting to a new normal. The second year in a row without friends at her Birthday party after we cancelled her party last year one day before when the world was shutting down. Kids are so resilient… she’s been amazing through it all and will only come out stronger. We were able to have a little celebration with family and I want to share the details from that.
Crosby’s third Birthday is one that we will always remember. She was so excited for her party and talked about it for months and even changed her mind on the theme a handful of times. She was still switching themes back and forth when I decided just to do under the sea. This was really the first year she had a good understanding of what a birthday was and could not wait for her friends to come to her party.
Obviously the party we were planning did not happen with everything going on right now. The day before we decided to cancel. It would have been extremely irresponsible to have 40 people over given the current situation with Coronavirus. We had our immediate families over for tacos and cake and still decorated for a party. I have quite a bit of decorations left I didn’t use which I will return or save for future parties. But what we did do made Crosby so happy. Aside from asking when her friends were coming a few times in the morning she truly felt so happy and loved all day. And that’s all we ever wanted.
I will include a list of product sources for what I can below. The ombre tassel garland was an easy DIY with plastic table covers and parachute cord. It was pretty inexpensive and such a fun color pop, I’ll definitely do similar things for future parties.
I can’t end this post without addressing everything currently going on in the world and how it’s affecting us all. Our family is staying at home as long as we need to to do our part to help flatten the curve and hope that anyone else who is able to does so. Jeff will be working from home, lots of businesses of our city are shutting down and we have cancelled all plans (including Wilder’s 1st birthday party) for the forseeable future.
My heart goes out to everyone putting their own health and safety at risk to continue to work, especially those in health care, grocery stores, delivery people, factory workers and anyone else who might be serving the public right now. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. My heart also goes out to parents who are not able to work from home and have to try to arrange child care for their children right now. This is not an easy time but we’re all in this together.
Rompers have been a fixture in my summer wardrobe and I don’t see that stopping any time soon. I love the sunflower lace pattern on this one by Motel Rocks. I wore it to my best friend’s Birthday party over the weekend and it was the perfect alternative to a little black dress. The best part about the one piece is that you can dress it up for nighttime one day and then wear it to the beach with flip flops the next.
This lace dress seemed to scream celebrate, which is fitting because today is my Birthday! I spent my weekend with family… it was mellow and just what I wanted. I paired this sweet lacey dress with muted colored accessories for a dinner. Looking back I realized I wore a lace dress to celebrate my Birthday last year too! No surprise here because I’m a totally lace girl.
I searched for a denim vest for a long time, I even got my mom involved. Finally, she found one at my favorite store from 7th grade, Tilly’s. I haven’t been there in years but she thought to go in and look and sure enough, she found the perfect vest. I’ve already worn it so many times and love how it looks with this watermelon colored lace dress. The denim and lace are the perfect contrast to keep this outfit casual enough for a happy hour birthday party.
