I have a serious collection of striped shirts. They’re so classic and versatile and I get so much wear out of them. This one is new, under $20 and I’m already imagining wearing it to the beach in the summer over bikinis and cutoffs. I kept it seasonally appropriate here with my favorite faux fur vest and flares.

But let’s talk about the vest for a minute. It’s a piece I always add to my outfit last-minute when I want to feel extra cozy. It feels like a blanket and I find myself wearing it over my PJ’s around the house too.

Years ago a friend who also works in fashion gave me wise advice. She said never get rid of jeans when they so-called “go out of style,” because they end up coming around again. I guess that’s true for all trends, but it seems the turn-over rate for denim is much quicker.

Case in point – flares. I’ve had my two favorite pairs for 6+ years! They’re pieces that have survived closet purges because they still fit and I know I’ll get more wear out of them. Each time this trend comes around I find new styles I love just as much. This one is at the top of my list and I’m loving the colors of this pair and this pair.

I think this dress is a great fall or even winter staple, I just love the colors and print. These flares are another item missing from my closet. And I can never pass up a dainty gold necklace with some sparkle.

What’s missing in your closet?

Although it technically is still winter, I’m definitely jumping ahead to spring trends. I paired this off the shoulder flare top with a pair of denim flares for a double dose of bohemian. This top is such a great piece, I can already see myself pairing  it with lace shorts, cutoffs and even over a bathing suit. I’m definitely ready for it to be spring!

Just because it’s January doesn’t mean you can’t add a little neon into your outfits. When I’m dreaming of a beach day, I always reach for my summer favorites. Lucky for me we are still experiencing summer-like heat, but that doesn’t mean I’m wearing a bikini. Instead I turn to the next best things, comfy tanks, fun accessories and anything with a florescent warm color. I think it’s even more fun to do against a snowy backdrop, so if you’re freezing due to another arctic vortex blast, warm yourself up with a bright coat, scarf, beanie or boots!
