The Best Hotels in Palm Springs

March 25, 2014 by ashley 3 Comments

photo

I spent the weekend in Palm Springs, I hadn’t been in a couple years but it was just as wonderful as I remembered. We rented a house to stay at but it got me thinking of my favorite hotels in the area. Because it’s only about an hour and a half away I’ve gone at least a dozen times over the years and have narrowed down my top three choices for the best hotels.

In no particular order…

The Ace

ace

Ace hotels always have a cool vibe. They’re equal parts hipster and vintage and really make you feel like you’ve just discovered uncharted territory. This particular location really takes you back with it’s vintage mid-century decor. It keeps things pretty simple and embraces the raw beauty of the area. The pool area is a fun and relaxed party with dj’s spinning tracks you wouldn’t hear at a Vegas club. I also love that it’s pet friendly!

The Parker

Anyone whose ever visited The Parker can attest to it’s beauty. The hotel was designed by one of my favorite interior designers, Jonathan Adler, and his quirky glam marks are everywhere.  The hotel is nesseled back from the street and really makes you feel like you’re far away from everything. It’s the perfect place for a spa weekend and I plan on visiting again soon for just that!

The Riviera

MLF Riviera at night

I first visited The Riviera in high school on spring break with my mom, my best friend and her mom. As uncool as that sounds at the time we had such a great time and I treasure the memories. They’ve since remodeled the hotel and I’ve visited a few times with girlfriends. It has a retro glam vibe that can’t be missed and on the weekends the pool turns into a giant party. It’s not a family resort at all but perfect for weekends away with friends.

**I was not paid to post about these hotels, I truly love visiting each of them.

#ONEOFAKINDSTYLE: OSCARS

March 3, 2014 by ashley 4 Comments

Phew! Awards Season is finally over. This last week was probably the craziest I’ve experienced at work in my career thus far and it’s fair to say I’m relieved it’s over. I loved every second of the season, but it is exhausting being so involved in it.

As usual there were some amazing looks last night and once again I’ve teamed up with Diet Dr. Pepper to highlight my favorite One of a Kind Red Carpet Style. If you missed it last night, here are my favorites from the red carpet.

(If you want to relive any award show this season check out my recaps from the Golden Globes, SAG Awards and Grammys).

My absolute, can’t live without, favorite look was Kate Hudson in this GORG Atelier Versace gown. Need I say more?

oscars

Charlize Theron, Jared Leto and Lupita Nyung’o really brought the glam factor. I especially loved Charlize’s classy black Dior gown, Jared’s white Saint Laurent tuxedo jacket with the red bow tie and OMG Lupita looked flawless in powder blue Prada. I always think of the Oscars as the senior prom of awards shows and they really went out with a fabulous but glamorous BANG!

I was so inspired by their glam looks I decided to cook up my own. Who says you can’t wear faux fur, a cocktail dress and killer heels in the daylight? I’m following their leads by sending awards season off on the right foot.

#ONEOFAKINDSTYLE: Grammy Awards

January 27, 2014 by ashley 4 Comments

It’s been a crazy few weeks of awards shows; first with the Golden Globes, then the SAG Awards and yesterday the Grammys. I worked the first two but got a break for the Grammys and got to watch them from my couch. It’s been so long since I watched an awards show from home I’d forgotten how relaxing it is!

Once again I’ve teamed up with Diet Dr. Pepper to highlight my favorite One of a Kind Red Carpet Style. If you missed last night here are my highlights from the red carpet.

My hands down favorite from the red carpet was Taylor Swift in this amazing Gucci gown. That gown was made for her and looked like a gorgeous sparkling glass of champagne. So GLAM.

Chrissy Teigen kept with Taylor’s gold metallic trend but edged it up in this hot Johanna Johnson gown. Another edgy favorite was the always fabulous Louise Roe wearing the Australian designer Manning Cartell and uber accessible Shoe Dazzle heels! I also loved the edginess of  Alicia Keys in my favorite designer, Armani Prive.

Inspired by these edgy looks I put together my own daytime look with a favorite chambray shirt, teal wax coated skinny jeans and a fab pair of heels.

SAG Awards Fashion

January 20, 2014 by ashley 4 Comments

SAG1

SAG2

Saturday, in the midst of a crazy heatwave, the SAG Awards were held in downtown Los Angeles. Once again, there were lots of pretty gowns and once again my favorite was Lupita Nyungo in a turquoise Gucci number. She really is the new fashion “IT” girl and can do no wrong in my book.

Aside from that, here’s what I wore to try to beat the heat but not look like a total schlep on the red carpet. I found this f21 cut out dress a few weeks ago (it’s now sold out) and it was the perfect choice for being under a clear plastic tent in 90 + degree heat. Yes, it’s January and this is what we’re dealing with.

Glamjamas

Maybe it’s my busy schedule talking, but all I want right now is to wear a comfortable outfit that still looks chic. I always find it easier to get out of bed when I have a fab outfit lined up… and bonus points for comfort. I put together this “off duty” look that would be perfect for casual Friday at a relaxed dress code job, weekend errands or whatever your heart desires! I think this look would be even more fab topped with a beanie and with a dash of red lipstick. So tell me, does this outfit fit in with your weekend plans? Sadly I’ll be working again so it doesn’t with mine.

GLAMO – Glam Camo

January 10, 2014 by ashley 4 Comments

First off, let me apologize for being MIA this week. I went back to work Monday after a two week break and am now elbows deep in Award’s Season. It began Wednesday with the People’s Choice Awards but really kicks off this weekend with the Golden Globes. Then, we have back to back awards shows the next few weekends. It’s crazy and busy but a lot of fun! I’m hoping to be back to posting on my regular schedule next week.

This is the other J. Crew tee I was telling you about in this post. I loved the blues and grays in this camo print and glamed it up with more feminine details. I love masculine tops paired with statement necklaces, skirts or a big ear and leather. Speaking of, how amaze is this metallic leather skirt? I think everyone needs that in their closet ASAP!
