9 Favorite Basic Tops

March 1, 2021 by ashadmin 2 Comments

Over the last year I’ve really gotten into basic tops. The combination of not going many places and favoring comfort/practicality has lead me to take a deep dive and try out several basic tops. Everything from tanks to long sleeves and I’ve found nine that I consider wardrobe staples and wear all. the. time. Seriously – people are probably sick of me talking about them and wearing them but when I find things I love I want to share them. I’m breaking them all down below in my basic top guide.

  1. J. Crew slub twist-front tank

I first purchased this in a cute leopard print at the end of last spring. It’s a great tank with a thicker strap and high neck. The twist-front detail makes it a little more interesting. It’s no longer available in leopard but I also have it in white and wear it all the time. It comes in coral, gray, light blue and navy as well. It can be worn for workouts or with jeans. Comfortable, casual and not cropped. It’s currently on sale for $16.50.

2. Topshop u-neck tank

If you forced me to pick a favorite tank, this would be it. It’s light-weight, comfortable and can be worn with just about everything. It comes in white, gray and black and I have it in all three colors and wear it at least once a week. It’s European sizes so I go up one and it has a perfectly relaxed fit.

3. Target A New Day tank

This little $8 is another staple I have in several colors. It’s ribbed with a high neck and the most flattering cut in straps. Easy to wear on it’s own or layer. It comes in so many colors and they add new ones every season. It runs a little small (and has a tight fit) so I go up one size.

4. Free People sweater tank

This knit tank is so effortless. It runs a little big and has a somewhat slouchy fit so I like to layer bralettes or basic camis under so it’s not too low cut, but it fits everyone differently. It comes in 8 colors and they seem to add more from time to time. I also love to wear it knotted over a one piece swimsuit.

5. Abercrombie knotted crew tee

This is a classic t-shirt with a twist (the knotting in the front), but you always un-knot it. It comes in seven colors/prints. I’ve found it to run a little small so I would size up. It’s a great price point at under $20.

6. Free People cropped baby bamboo tee

I first purchased this shirt in black at the beginning of last year’s stay at home order to wear for walks with leggings and bike shorts. I loved it so much I got in a another color too. It is a true cropped tee – I wear it with high-rise pants and you don’t see skin. It’s $20 and comes in a bunch of colors.

7. Free People Cadence long sleeve top

This is more of an active wear piece as it’s part of the Free People Movement line but I wear it as a noral top. It’s cropped in the front and longer in the back so I like it with high waisted pants. It’s super light weight and the white is a little sheer but it comes in a few other colors too.

8. Abercrombie long sleeve seamless ribbed top

I purchased this top last month and it quickly became a new favorite. I got it in white and have worn it weekly since. It’s stretchy, really soft and flattering. Because it’s tight I went up a size so it would be more comfortable. It’s slightly cropped and looks great with high waisted jeans. Also comes in black and moss green.

9. Free People Betty long sleeve tee

This long sleeve top is really light weight with a lower neckline, but it’s really versatile. I have it in white and wear it often. Because it’s light weight it’s easy to layer and looks great under all my jackets. It runs big, I would size down if possible.

February Wardrobe Staples

February 1, 2021 by ashadmin No Comments

Happy February! We made it through January, which arguably always feels like the longest month of the year. I don’t know about you, but I am so ready for warmer weather. I know I live in Southern California and can’t really complain too much about a frigid winter, but spring sounds really nice right now. Keeping two toddlers inside when it’s rainy/cold/windy is not an easy job. My hat goes off to everyone who has to do it in colder climates. Anyway, today I’m sharing February’s wardrobe staples.

shacket, pullover, jeans, slides

I picked out 4 pieces this month that make the perfect neutral outfit. Can you tell I’m really into beige right now? I’ve had these jeans for several months now and continue to wear them regularly. I love that they come in regular and ankle lengths. I have went with the ankle and still cut them to be a little shorter. Plus I love a raw hemline.

I purchased this pullover on sale several weeks ago and could not love it more. I have it in cream, but it comes in tons of other colors too. It’s on sale here and the cream color is fully stocked in all sizes. If you’re after more colors, it’s available on the Free People site as well – it’s just not on sale. I went with my normal size – it’s a little roomy and loose but not long if that makes sense.

You know I’m all about shackets right now… ie shirt + jacket. When I spotted this beige one I added it to my cart so fast. It will literally go with everything. It has a comfy oversized fit (I stuck to my normal size) and it’s not a thick or bulky jacket – perfect to transition to spring.

These slides are another new addition in my current favorite color. I wear my slippers so much inside I was looking for a similar pair I could wear out and about, once it gets warmer of course. These are a great price but run a little small. They’re only available in whole sizes so I went up half a size and they fit perfectly.

Old Navy Joggers 5 Ways

January 15, 2021 by ashadmin No Comments

Happy Friday! We’re currently experiencing a little heatwave (it’s supposed to be 80 degrees today) so I’m excited for a weekend spent outside. This week I styled the Old Navy joggers from my monthly staples five different ways. Truthfully it was a little warm to wear them much outside of the house so most of the looks are centered around comfort. Hope you have a great weekend!

Madewell York Half-Zip Sweater Styled 5 Ways

January 8, 2021 by ashadmin No Comments

I’m so excited to kick off my first week of my new monthly staple series. This is something I’ve been wanting to start for awhile but decided to wait until the new year to really dive in. Each week I will choose one of my monthly staples to style five ways. First up is the Madewell York Half-Zip Sweater. I love this sweater, it’s such a great wardrobe staple for winter. It comes in two other colors (gray and amber) and I honestly think they’re all equally versatile. I went with the blush because not only do I love the color, but I thought it would be fun to style with so much – winter whites, blacks, jeans, etc.

Look 1:

sweater, leggings, shoes (available here, here and here – go down 1.5 sizes from your normal women’s size)

We’ll call this my “momiform” as it’s something I wear most days when I’m with the kids.

Look 2:

hat, sweater, coatigan, jeans, similar shoes

Maybe my favorite way because you know how much I love this coatigan! This sweater is thin enough that it can be layered under jackets and other sweaters.

Look 3:

sweater, cropped t-shirt, jeans, boots

I thought layering this cropped tee under with it zipped all the way down was a fun way to style it. I paired it winter whites and love how fresh this is.

Look 4:

sweater, joggers (similar), slippers

The most realistic way I’ve been wearing it – around my house with joggers. So 2020/2021 of me.

Look 5:

similar leather jacket, sweater, jeans, similar booties

This is how I’d wear it for a winter date night, if we weren’t on lockdown. Love it paired with blacks and a pop of animal print.

Which way is your favorite?!

Hope you are having an ok week, all things considered. Thank you so much for reading and following!

January Wardrobe Staples

January 5, 2021 by ashadmin No Comments

2020 was the year that really changed the way I shop. Instead of buying trendy stand out pieces I’ve gone back to basics and curated a wardrobe of staples that I reach for over and over again. I found the holes in my closet and filled them with what I know I need and will wear. A lot of last year was spent in leggings and lounge wear, and this year is starting out the same. I’ve found just by having the right items getting dressed is fun. Which is why I wanted to start this series sharing staples I’ve chosen for the month and plan to style multiple ways.

madewell york half-zip pullover sweater

sweater, jeans

Madewell York Half-Zip Sweater – I recently purchased this sweater and immediately thought about all the ways I’ll wear it. With jeans (of any color really), leggings, joggers, possibly even over a dress? It’s definitely a staple and I know I’ll get my money’s worth with it. This is the blush which I espeically love in winter, but it also comes in gray and an amber/taupe color. Under $100. I sized down to an xxs and it’s flattering and somewhat fitted.

similar beanie, sweatshirt, jacket, leggings, shoes, sunglasses

Amazon Sherling Jacket – One of my girlfriends influenced me into buying this jacket 2 winters ago and it remains one of my best fashion purchases from Amazon. The price is amazing (under $40), it comes in a few other colors too. I have it in a small and it’s slightly oversized but super comfy.

similar bodysuit, joggers, slippers, wine glass

Old Navy Joggers – I was drawn to the deep wine color of these joggers and also loved the subtle overdyed/tie dye look. I dressed them up (somewhat) for NYE but I’ve also worn them casually around the house. They’re the perfect every day jogger – and come in tons of colors. I stuck to my normal size and they fit great.

Everlane Court Sneakers – I received these sneakers back in October and have surprised myself by how much I’ve worn them. If you’re looking for a comfortable pair of everyday sneakers I highly recommend these. This is the off white/fog combo and I love how discrete they are. TTS.

Thank you so much for reading – I hope you have a great day!

Loft Sleeveless Sweater

July 25, 2018 by ashadmin 1 Comment

sunglasses, top c/o, jeans, bag, scarf, similar sandals

I’ve always loved a sleeveless sweater and think they can be some of the most practical tops in my closet. Even though they’re sleeveless they’re a bit thicker and are really easy to layer over. Perfect for chillier months and still fine in the summer with bare arms.

I took these pictures a couple of weeks ago during a little break from our July heatwave. It’s been SO hot this month! I know I can’t complain considering a lot of the country is experiencing triple digits, but it seems never ending. How’s the weather where you are? We’re heading to Napa tomorrow where it’s really warm during the day and cooler at night.

But back to the sleeveless sweater trend. I wanted to share more of them since they’re such a wardrobe staple and I think I need a couple more for the next few months.

  • Love this striped one… it comes in two colors.
  • I have this one too… it’s such a cheery color.
  • I love this one and it’s such a good neutral.
  • This one is such a cute option for fall.
  • This one is a cropped option that I love.
  • Another striped one but this one is still so cute.
  • Love the ruffle detailing on this one.
  • This one is so chic and a great basic.
