The annual MET Costume Institute Gala, or the Oscars of Fashion, was held last night in New York City.  I look forward to seeing the red carpet arrival pictures of this event every year.  I love that Vogue’s Anna Wintour handpicks the stars she wants to attend and actually pairs them with the designer who will dress them.  I picture it like a much more grown up and posh version of picking teams for kickball with celebs lined up on one side of a room, designers on another and Anna in the middle with a whistle and clipboard.

This year’s gala did not disappoint, here are my favorite looks of the night.

Best Trends:

Solange Knowles, wearing Rachel Roy, looked fresh in two of this season’s hottest trends: bright color and peplum.

Best Shimmer:

Camilla Belle, in Ralph Lauren Collection, absolutely dazzled.  Her gown was perfect for her skin tone and she gave it a more edgy feel with the dark lip.

Best White:

Claire Danes kept it chic in a white asymmetrical J. Mendel gown.  When wearing a white gown it’s important to keep it simple but put a sexy spin on it so it doesn’t look bridal.

Best Risk:

While most would look like a poorly wrapped package in this black lace Thakoon gown, Christina Ricci’s petite frame rocked it.

Best Back:

Baring her back in Tom Ford, Rihanna looked absolutely stunning in a more minimalistic gown.
