9 Favorite Basic Tops

March 1, 2021 by ashadmin 1 Comment

Over the last year I’ve really gotten into basic tops. The combination of not going many places and favoring comfort/practicality has lead me to take a deep dive and try out several basic tops. Everything from tanks to long sleeves and I’ve found nine that I consider wardrobe staples and wear all. the. time. Seriously – people are probably sick of me talking about them and wearing them but when I find things I love I want to share them. I’m breaking them all down below in my basic top guide.

  1. J. Crew slub twist-front tank

I first purchased this in a cute leopard print at the end of last spring. It’s a great tank with a thicker strap and high neck. The twist-front detail makes it a little more interesting. It’s no longer available in leopard but I also have it in white and wear it all the time. It comes in coral, gray, light blue and navy as well. It can be worn for workouts or with jeans. Comfortable, casual and not cropped. It’s currently on sale for $16.50.

2. Topshop u-neck tank

If you forced me to pick a favorite tank, this would be it. It’s light-weight, comfortable and can be worn with just about everything. It comes in white, gray and black and I have it in all three colors and wear it at least once a week. It’s European sizes so I go up one and it has a perfectly relaxed fit.

3. Target A New Day tank

This little $8 is another staple I have in several colors. It’s ribbed with a high neck and the most flattering cut in straps. Easy to wear on it’s own or layer. It comes in so many colors and they add new ones every season. It runs a little small (and has a tight fit) so I go up one size.

4. Free People sweater tank

This knit tank is so effortless. It runs a little big and has a somewhat slouchy fit so I like to layer bralettes or basic camis under so it’s not too low cut, but it fits everyone differently. It comes in 8 colors and they seem to add more from time to time. I also love to wear it knotted over a one piece swimsuit.

5. Abercrombie knotted crew tee

This is a classic t-shirt with a twist (the knotting in the front), but you always un-knot it. It comes in seven colors/prints. I’ve found it to run a little small so I would size up. It’s a great price point at under $20.

6. Free People cropped baby bamboo tee

I first purchased this shirt in black at the beginning of last year’s stay at home order to wear for walks with leggings and bike shorts. I loved it so much I got in a another color too. It is a true cropped tee – I wear it with high-rise pants and you don’t see skin. It’s $20 and comes in a bunch of colors.

7. Free People Cadence long sleeve top

This is more of an active wear piece as it’s part of the Free People Movement line but I wear it as a noral top. It’s cropped in the front and longer in the back so I like it with high waisted pants. It’s super light weight and the white is a little sheer but it comes in a few other colors too.

8. Abercrombie long sleeve seamless ribbed top

I purchased this top last month and it quickly became a new favorite. I got it in white and have worn it weekly since. It’s stretchy, really soft and flattering. Because it’s tight I went up a size so it would be more comfortable. It’s slightly cropped and looks great with high waisted jeans. Also comes in black and moss green.

9. Free People Betty long sleeve tee

This long sleeve top is really light weight with a lower neckline, but it’s really versatile. I have it in white and wear it often. Because it’s light weight it’s easy to layer and looks great under all my jackets. It runs big, I would size down if possible.

5 Ways to Wear – Free People Pullover

February 16, 2021 by ashadmin No Comments

Last week I styled my off white Free People pullover from my monthly staples five different ways. I’ve had this sweater for over a month now and have worn it tons of different ways already. I’m a sucker for a neutral and this one really goes with everything. I’ve worn it with black, white and blue jeans, leggings and joggers and even my favorite cut off shorts in our January heatwave. It’s super comfortable for everything. If you’re not into the cream, it’s available in several other colors as well. Take a look at five ways I wore it last week.

*note: it’s on sale currently at Nordstrom but is selling out quickly, it’s fully stocked but not on sale at Free People.

5 Ways to Wear – Tan Shacket

February 5, 2021 by ashadmin No Comments

This week I’m highlighting the tan shacket in my staple series and I’m styling it five ways. Well, technically six if you count the pic above from when I first tried it on. This is such a versatile piece that I know I will continue to wear so many different ways. It’s not super heavy duty and more of a layer than an actual jacket, but it works for Southern California winter and could be made warmer with a thicker sweater worn under. Sizing note, it has a comfy oversized fit. If you want it to be more fitted I would suggest sizing down. I went with my normal size and it is definitely on the bigger side, but it’s super comfy to layer.

January Top 5

February 3, 2021 by ashadmin No Comments

Well we made it 1/12th of the way through the year! Ha. I know yesterday was Groundhog’s Day, but truthfully every day has kind of felt like GHD for the past 11 months. Today I’m sharing my January top five sellers and then at the bottom I’m also sharing my Amazon top five from the month as well.

Plaid Shacket – Another month with this as my top seller. This “shacket” – shirt + jacket has been a favorite for the past couple months. It’s currently sold out but sometimes it gets re-stocked. This month I’m loving this tan one.

Free People Pullover – This was also one of my favorite purchases last month and a staple this month. Currently on sale and it’s cozy!

Target Ribbed Tank – I had this in a few colors last summer and was so excited when I saw the tie dyed version. I love these tanks, perfect on their own or layered under something. I bought it in pink and beige.

Outdoor Dining Bench – You can tell we’re inching towards spring when outdoor items are selling fast. We’ve had this bench on one side of our outdoor dining table for two years and love it for extra seating.

Outdoor Tassel Umbrella – Always a hot item! This umbrella sells out quickly but is often restocked. I have two of them and want to purchase another as a spare.

Amazon top 5:

Slippers – So comfortable and cozy. I wear them 24/7 at home.

Teddy Coat – My go-to coat in the winter. It comes in a bunch of colors and is under $50.

Leggings – Super flattering basic leggings. They’re high-waisted and hit right at my ankle. They come in a bunch of colors and prints – I have them in black.

Adidas Sneakers – These are “big kids” sizes – you subtract 1.5 from your women’s size. I wear a 6.5 in women’s and a 5 in these.

Toddler Sneakers – Crosby’s favorite shoes! These are designer inspired and come in 3 colors. They take about a month to come and run a little small.

February Wardrobe Staples

February 1, 2021 by ashadmin No Comments

Happy February! We made it through January, which arguably always feels like the longest month of the year. I don’t know about you, but I am so ready for warmer weather. I know I live in Southern California and can’t really complain too much about a frigid winter, but spring sounds really nice right now. Keeping two toddlers inside when it’s rainy/cold/windy is not an easy job. My hat goes off to everyone who has to do it in colder climates. Anyway, today I’m sharing February’s wardrobe staples.

shacket, pullover, jeans, slides

I picked out 4 pieces this month that make the perfect neutral outfit. Can you tell I’m really into beige right now? I’ve had these jeans for several months now and continue to wear them regularly. I love that they come in regular and ankle lengths. I have went with the ankle and still cut them to be a little shorter. Plus I love a raw hemline.

I purchased this pullover on sale several weeks ago and could not love it more. I have it in cream, but it comes in tons of other colors too. It’s on sale here and the cream color is fully stocked in all sizes. If you’re after more colors, it’s available on the Free People site as well – it’s just not on sale. I went with my normal size – it’s a little roomy and loose but not long if that makes sense.

You know I’m all about shackets right now… ie shirt + jacket. When I spotted this beige one I added it to my cart so fast. It will literally go with everything. It has a comfy oversized fit (I stuck to my normal size) and it’s not a thick or bulky jacket – perfect to transition to spring.

These slides are another new addition in my current favorite color. I wear my slippers so much inside I was looking for a similar pair I could wear out and about, once it gets warmer of course. These are a great price but run a little small. They’re only available in whole sizes so I went up half a size and they fit perfectly.

5 Ways to Wear – Amazon Teddy Coat

January 22, 2021 by ashadmin No Comments

TGIF! It’s back to winter here which made it the perfect week to style my favorite teddy coat 5 different ways. In case you missed it I started a new series this month where I choose a few wardrobe staples and style them each 5 different ways. I got this sherpa jacket a couple years ago after seeing it on a friend. I could not believe it was an amazon find – and it’s only $34! It quickly became one of my favorite jackets and I’ve worn it so much in the past two years… through my pregnancy with Wilder, casually on walks around the neighborhood and to the park, but it’s also chic with leggings and boots for a slightly more elevated look.

It has a slightly oversized fit, but I stuck to my normal size and it comes in 34 different colors!! I have it in khaki.

Hope you have a great weekend – thank you so much for reading and following!
