Playing Dress Up

April 19, 2016 by Ashley 3 Comments

blue and white striped skirt

A high-waisted skirt paired with a  crop top is an easy outfit that always make me feel pulled together. There’s just something so lady-like about skirts like this one and love how I feel like I’m playing dress up, but as an adult!

I went a little nautical here with this red bag and Hermes scarf that I’ve had for years. I actually got at a vintage store shortly after I graduated college and moved to LA. I felt like I found gold and bought it and have treasured it since.

Aisle Style

Today I’m so excited to be sharing one of my favorite parts of my wedding with you, my aisle style! In case you missed it I previously posted about our flowers and invitations.

I started thinking about my wedding look pretty much the moment we got engaged. I already had an idea of a style of dress I wanted, thanks to a picture I saw of a backless dress on Pinterest.  That image stuck with me and luckily I was able to track down the designer and visit her showroom in downtown LA!

I tried on a few different dresses and knew I wanted Katie May to make mine. It was a completely different experience than visiting a bridal store or department store, but it ended up being so me.

I went with Katie May for my veil too so the laces would match. I loved the look of the long veil for the ceremony and pictures.

I wanted to keep the rest of my look fairly simple and clean. For jewelry, I borrowed a pair of pearl earrings from my mom and wore a vintage diamond ring passed down from my grandma with the rose gold diamond necklace and love bracelet I wear every single day. I wanted to sweep my hair to one side to highlight the open back and found this hairpiece to finish the look.

The one thing I was indecisive about was my shoes. I ordered this fun flamingo pair for my rehearsal dinner but couldn’t land on a wedding shoe. I ended up choosing this blush pair by Badgley Mischka and was comfortable dancing all night. Definitely go for a comfortable shoe for your wedding!

I had six of my best friends as bridesmaids and wanted to keep their look classic. I’ve been to tons of weddings with mismatched bridesmaid dresses but ended up choosing this one in dove gray for all my girls. It was semi selfish because I didn’t want to take the distraction away from me. JustFab was nice enough to gift all the girls with shoes that they all loved!

Teenage Dream

What’s old is new again, friends! It appears that even though I just did a major closet purge some “vintage” pieces still made the cut.

Denim skirts are the new denim shorts so it’s lucky I held on one… I definitely felt like an 18-year-old wearing it. Speaking of teenagers, these converse shoes have been with me since I was a sophomore in high school. That’s nearly half my life!! These bad boys have been to three different countries and look better than ever. I also pulled out my favorite balenciaga I’ve been carrying since ’04, that thing has only gotten better with age. I topped off the look with a new piece, another Sol Angeles sweatshirt that’s so cozy I’ve been wearing it 24/7.

YIKES Stripes!

Sometimes it’s fun to wear one pattern and color scheme in three different pieces head to toe… even if they don’t “match.” I love that these high- waisted pants are vertical striped – it helps to lengthen my short legs. I played up the stripes and had fun mixing and matching with the two other pieces. Sometimes more is more. TGIF!

Spring Boho

Although it technically is still winter, I’m definitely jumping ahead to spring trends. I paired this off the shoulder flare top with a pair of denim flares for a double dose of bohemian. This top is such a great piece, I can already see myself pairing  it with lace shorts, cutoffs and even over a bathing suit. I’m definitely ready for it to be spring!

Color Blocking

June 12, 2013 by ashley 11 Comments

colorblock1

This dress knocks the color blocking trend out of the ballpark. And when you add accessories? It’s like a rainbow explosion so perfect and cheerful I couldn’t help but feel so summer ready and happy we found the perfect backdrop for these colorful photos.

When embracing a lot of color it’s important to balance it out like I did here with my neutral shoe. Also, I’ve mentioned before but I’m only 5’4″ (on a good day) so I will take any chance I get to elongate my legs and make myself look taller.
