Hair 411

Managing my hair has been a learning process over several years. I have a lot of fine stick-straight hair that gets extremely tangled when it’s wet. It’s a true test of patience and I always feel bad for my hairstylist after a shampoo.  This brush has been my savor since my bestie Shelby introduced me to it. Once it dries it’s more manageable but can still be a little tangled and fall flat if I just let it go.

I feel like I enlist a small army to get it just the way I like. Let’s start from the top…

hair care

  • I was recently introduced to this shampoo after receiving it in a gift bag and it’s a miracle worker. It’s more than I normally spend for shampoo but  I plan on buying the full size bottle.
  • A good conditioner is key for someone who has such tangled hair, this one has been on heavy rotation for years and I love how nourished and silky it makes my hair feel.
  • Once I’m out of the shower a detangler is essential in order to even get the wet brush through my locks. Once again It’s a 10 products come to my rescue. I’m currently using the blonde miracle leave-in, but I’ve tried them all. I love this one that has Keratin for extra hair health.
  • Because my hair is straight, I like to let it air dry if I have the time. I try to do as little heat styling as possible in order to keep it healthy.
  • Once it’s dry I like to add waves, but first I use this to prep and protect.  This curling iron is everything. I don’t know what I did before I had it. I wrap my hair around the rod without using the clamp and don’t section it off for a more tousled beachy waves look. I finish with this and sometimes I spray in a little hair spray.
  • I try to only wash my hair a few times a week so in between I am dependent on dry shampoo. This one is my favorite at the moment.
  • Once I week I like to deep condition my hair… before I was it I apply this to the ends. I leave it on for a few hours and then shower and wash my hair normally.

Guess What I Am?

cat 1

This top from Wildfox was too good to pass up for Halloween! Paired with cat eye sunnies and leopard pumps, it’s a subtle but cute costume you could easily wear to work or a party. I plan on wearing it when I see my nieces tomorrow night with my leopard print vans and cat ears as my easy costume.

I always love the cheeky tees Wildfox puts out and am sharing more favorites below.

Wedding Wednesday: What I’m Pinning

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve given a wedding update and was starting to feel like nothing much had changed… until I looked at my to-do list. So far we’ve booked our photographer, tasted and selected our cake flavors, we’re really close to locking down a florist and I’m about to say yes to the dress! It’s all very exciting, but a little overwhelming.

Since I don’t have any photos of the process so far I thought I’d share more images we’ve been pinning to give you more of an idea of our overall aesthetic.

I’m really excited about the flowers. We are getting married during Peony season and I couldn’t be happier… I’ve also fallen in love with Pampas Grass (as evidence in my Pinterest board devoted to the flowers.)

Next on our list is engagement pictures, which we’re taking next month. Then we need to nail down a DJ, find bridesmaid’s dresses and groomsmen attire… etc. Phew! Less than 8 months to go…!

Ballerina Costume

ballerina 1

To kick off Halloween week I’m bringing you my version of a ballerina. I’ve admired this tulle skirt from Shabby Apple for awhile, but I’m not really the kind of girl to wear it any old day. Luckily Halloween is a fun excuse to step outside your comfort zone. I kept my ballet look pretty simple but feminine, with a cropped sweater, high bun and ballet shoe colored heels… kinda like a ballerina “off duty,” but you could really run with this.

Oh My Gold

Over the years my love for anything gold has grown exponentially. In high school and college I thought it was tacky and dated and wore mostly silver when it came to jewelry. Looking back it’s so funny because now I do the opposite. Anyway, aside from my jewels I love incorporating gold into my day-to-day looks too. Since holiday season (and parties) will be here before you know it, now is the perfect time of year to add a little to your wardrobe.

Bucket Bag Bender

Bucket bags have been on my radar lately, thanks to Mansur Gavriel. I really had my heart set on a red one, but am too impatient to wait until they release more.  Luckily, I started looking around and found SO MANY good ones.

Hats On

beach hat 1

As I shared here and here, I have a growing obsession with felt fall hats. I love the effortless cool factor they add to a casual outfit. This two tone one became a fav as soon as I spotted it while shopping last week. Over the weekend we had a few wedding planning errands (poor Jeff) to cross off our list, so I threw this outfit on to be comfortable. Are you as into these felt panama hats as I am? I’m sharing more favorites below.

Crushin’ On Copper

Over the last year I’ve become completely infatuated with all things copper. This is obviously carried over from my love of rose gold jewelry. However, my home has turned into a copper cave, (evidence below) but I’m not complaining. Recently I went a little crazy in the Threshold section of Target and snapped up all the copper bar ware I could carry.

These puppies are finally online and are too good to pass up (cocktail shaker, pitcherice bucket and tongsserving tray).Use the code HOME10 until 11/8 for 10% off purchases of $50 or more.

I’ve also found more copper housewares below.

90′s Vibes

fall skirt 4

I received a box of Tart Collections goodies a few weeks ago and this skirt was one of the first things that caught my eye. I always love a neutral skirt, but paired with a chambray shirt tied around my waist added a 90′s cool vibe. I played up the neutral with my other favorite, leopard and was ready for a night out. Side note: super bummed these Sole Society booties sold out last year but I found a really similar Dolce Vita pair that I just might need.

Fall in LA

fall shorts 1

The whole “fall” thing is kind of a lost concept in LA. By September our brains think it’s supposed to start cooling down, but mother nature is still heating up. Most years true fall (below 78 degrees) starts around Thanksgiving, however mornings and evenings cool off earlier than that. My solution is to layer, layer, layer! This duster cardigan is a godsend. It’s just as easy to pair with shorts as it is with a mini dress or denim for that “not quite fall” morning chill. I’m searching for more to add to my wardrobe.
