One Month With Crosby

And just like that our little peanut is one month old! It’s been both the shortest and longest month of my life. When we first got home from the hospital Jeff and I were both amazed at how quickly days were passing. In the beginning we were trying to learn and develop a routine and every moment seemed to be spent looking after her, which definitely made time speed up. We weren’t sleeping much because we were feeding her around the clock and we were in such a fog. Now that we’re more familiar and comfortable with our new roles, days are getting easier and more relaxing.

Because Crosby was so tiny – she was 5 pounds 10 ounces at birth and dropped down to 4 pounds 15 ounces a few days later, we had to start supplementing her with formula when we got home from the hospital. At first I’d feed her for about a half an hour and then Jeff would feed her formula through a syringe like he was feeding a baby bird. The whole process took over an hour and we were doing it every two and half to three hours trying to get some weight on our girl. After a few weeks we were able to replace the syringe with a bottle and that helped speed things along.

I shopped for her all wrong! I’d heard from so many people not to buy too many newborn sized things because they grow so fast and don’t end up wearing them for very long. So imagine our surprise when she was born and was too small for the few newborn things we even had. We quickly scrambled a few preemie outfits together thanks to the help of our moms and have been rotating them for the past month. Poor girl had a closet full of clothes and really nothing to wear! This is why you’ll notice she’s wearing so many different headbands in these pictures, they’re all that fit her and we have so much fun changing them! Luckily she’s started to grow – we think she’s over six pounds now and is finally starting to outgrow some of those preemie outfits. Newborn sizes are still a bit big but we’re hoping she’ll be in them soon.
